In the chakra system, Muladhara is to the body what a foundation is to a building. It remains invisible, yet without it nothing above could stand. Its element is Earth, its colors red and brown, its archetypal question: is it safe here? The ROOT composition was created as an aromatherapeutic answer to precisely this question, speaking to the nervous system in the language of scent.

Patchouli opens this composition from the very bottom. Its deep, earthy, fermented aroma belongs to those scents that evoke something like a physiological sigh in the human body, a kind of reflex to drop the shoulders and lengthen the breath. In Far Eastern tradition, patchouli was associated with the earth element, as its presence reminds our body that the ground beneath our feet exists.

Ylang-ylang enters the blend with its characteristic, intensely floral sweetness, which might seem inconsistent with earthy patchouli, were it not for the fact that both oils have accompanied grounding and purifying Balinese rituals for centuries. In the ROOT blend, ylang-ylang acts as a regulator, soothing the stress responses of the nervous system, lowering the heart rate, and allowing the body to rest upon the Earth.

Rose closes everything with an accent that is both the smallest in volume and emotionally the deepest. In Sufi tradition and Western Christian mysticism, the rose symbolizes the opening of the heart to love, which begins with love for one’s own existence. In the context of the first chakra, associated with the basic sense of the right to exist, its presence is precise and not accidental.
